As a starter project I want convert a Neural net app from "AI Techniques for Game Programming (2002 Buckland)" to a Visual C++ CLI Forms application. There is proof that for many cases, C++ needlessly burdens the programmer for little gain. I've studied programming (C#) for a bit over a year now and made some okay games in Unity and a bunch of regular projects. I already know C++ (well, at least the most important parts of it, up to classes and such), and now I'd like to start making simple games to learn the basic concepts of game programming. But obviously, with the existence of XNA, jMonkey, Unity and a host of game-specific DSLs out there. And i want to start game programming in 2d because after a lot of research on net people recommend not to jump in 3d directly.
